Munnar has a wide variety of flora and fauna. The rare variety of flora and fauna are found in the highly protected area such as Manjappatty Valley, Chinnar Wild Life Sanctuary, Eravikulam National Park, Rajamallay National Park. The major variety of species found in these areas are Nilagiri Thar, grizzled giant squirrel, Nilagiri Wood Pigeon, elephants, the gaur, the sambar and the Neelakurinji.
